Is it time to show your deck some love?

Deck life is the best life. Grilling season, slow evenings under the stars, an iced coffee on a Saturday morning before the rest of the house wakes up. However you use yours, we want it to be ready for you.

The thing is, decks take a beating. Sun, rain, snow, foot traffic, summer humidity, and the occasional knocked-over beverage all add up. Without routine care, you're not just losing the look. You're shortening the life of the whole surface and setting yourself up for repairs (or a full rebuild) you could have avoided, or at least delayed.

A little protection now saves you a lot of headache later.

Stress-free deck maintenance.

  • Clear, accurate estimates
  • Careful surface prep and quality stains (this is what makes it last)
  • Friendly, punctual painters who are great to have around
  • Clean, respectful work practices
  • Almost 40 years of caring for outdoor surfaces

Stain is sunscreen for your deck.

Even pressure-treated lumber needs a coat of stain to fight off rot, moisture, pests, and UV damage. Think of it like sunscreen, preventing discoloration and discomfort.

We'll help you pick the right product for your goals, too. Want a nearly transparent stain that lets the wood grain shine? Easy. Prefer a solid finish that covers older wood and gives you a cleaner, more painted look? Also easy. Somewhere in between? That's most projects, honestly.

Once the product is picked, the rest is process. Thorough sanding, careful wood repair where it's needed, and then working the stain in for proper saturation. Done right, this is the difference between a deck that looks good for one summer and one that looks good for five.

FAQs

Deck Staining FAQ

  • How often should I stain my deck?

For most decks in our climate, every two to four years, depending on sun exposure, foot traffic, and the type of product used. South- and west-facing decks tend to need more frequent attention because they take the worst of the sun. We'll give you an honest idea of what to expect in the maintenance department.

  • What's the best time of year to stain a deck?

Late spring through early fall, on stretches when the weather's dry and temperatures are reasonable. Stain needs time to soak in and cure properly, which is why we don't push a job into the wrong conditions. A rushed stain job in bad weather is the fastest way to a peeling deck next summer.

  • What's the difference between stain, sealer, and paint?

Quick version: a sealer protects but adds no color. A stain protects and tints the wood, with options ranging from nearly transparent to solid. Paint covers everything in a uniform color but tends to peel on horizontal surfaces, which is why we generally don't recommend it for decks. For most homeowners, the right answer is a quality stain matched to the look you want.

  • Can you restore a deck that's been neglected for a while?

Often, yes. If the boards are structurally sound and the rot is limited, a thorough cleaning, sanding, repair, and re-stain can bring a deck back to life. If the damage is past that point, we'll tell you honestly. We'd rather have that conversation up front than take your money to stain a deck that really needs to be rebuilt.
